Smart Towns completed a review of the 45 cities, towns and counties with populations 10,000 and more to compare Mayor and Council salaries. (1) There are 17 cities, 16 counties, 9 towns (2) and 3 specialized municipalities in the list.
Top 10 Highest Paid Mayors
In the list of the top ten highest paid mayors, 6 of them come from cities, 2 from specialized municipalities and 2 from counties.
Top 10 Lowest Paid Mayors
In the list of the top ten lowest paid mayors, 5 of them come from counties, 4 from towns and 1 from a specialized municipality.
Top 10 Highest Paid Mayors Relative to Population
In the list of the top ten lowest paid mayors relative to population, 7 of them come from counties, 2 from towns and 1 from a city.
Top 10 Highest Paid Councils (3)
In the list of the top ten highest paid mayors, 6 of them come from counties, 3 from cities and 1 is from a specialized municipality.
Top 10 Lowest Paid Councils (3)
In the list of the top ten lowest paid mayors, 5 of them come from towns, 4 from cities and 1 from a county.
Top 10 Highest Paid Councils Relative to Population (3)
In the list of the top ten lowest paid mayors relative to population, 9 of them come from counties, and 1 from a town.
- Data was taken from the 2015 financial statements published on each municipalities website.
- Chestermere has transitioned from a town to a city since 2015.
- Councils base pay is calculated based on total paid to all councilors divided by number of council members.
